In an exciting game and in double shoot-out Ukraine caused a great surprise and defeated Denmark.
The heavy rain has stopped in Umag, so with lots of sunshine and with music from the speakers the two national teams could finally start their morning match.
In the first set Denmark were the dominating team, Hans Lindberg and his team-mates overran their East European counterparts.
Ukraine fought back strong in the second period and despite a set on eye level, the more focused Ukrainians clinched victory, so a shoot-out decided about the game.
Denmark had the advantage and Hamburg player Hans Lindberg could have made the Danish victory clear with a one point goal, but he missed, therefore another shoot-out was necessary to decide about the winner.
Here the East Europeans showed themselves luckier and celebrated an important victory, whilst the Danes left the court disappointed.
Igor Chupryna, player of Ukraine: “We did know that our opponent is a strong team, many of their players perform in the Bundesliga. About us, we´ve short gathering time prior to this tournament and we hope to improve at the championship from game to game. In regard of the shoot-out, we have studied Denmark´s matches from last year´s World Championship and I remembered the way how Hans Lindberg throws penalties, so it was easy to save. We´re very happy about the victory.”
