1/8 finals in Sao Paulo (Barueri):
Russia – Iceland 30:19 (15:12)
The title defender from Russia remains undefeated and reaches the quarterfinals without problems against World Championship debutant Iceland.
The Scandinavians were only dangerous in the first half, but in the second, the Sbornaja found the rhythm of the game and with wonderful attacking outplayed a tired Iceland.
The first 30 minutes meant a great battle in this duel with the Scandinavians presenting an equal game against Russia whose players weren´t able to find the right rhythm in the game and have conceded several goals due to the bad defensive game.
With an improved second half and Iceland becoming unfocused and tired, the highly motivated Russians improved their attacking qualities from minute to minute and the lead has grown and so Evgeny Trefilov´s team has celebrated another victory and will meet the winner between France and Sweden in the quarterfinals.
