Quarterfinals, Sao Paulo, Brazil:
Russia – France 23:25 (12:13)
After winning all of their games so far in the tournament, Russia has failed in the Top 8 and clearly lost to a superior and strong French side.
Despite an early lead of Russia, coach Olivier Krumbholz´s team was on eye level in the first ten minutes and then turned the match and went into lead that Camille Ayglon and company kept till the half-time.
The Russians were unable to use their opportunities in the attack and with France producing a massive wall in front of superior goalkeeper Amandine Leynaud, the west-Europeans were great danger to the Russian team.
The Sbornaja had massive problems in its attacking and several errors crept in into their game, so France with a highly disciplined performance kept the lead till the dying minutes.
The Sbornaja bid farewell to their dreams to defend the title, whilst France continues to improve and impress. They will meet the winner of the clash Denmark against Angola in the semi-final.
