Alexandrina Barbosa, Spanish backplayer:

“Today we have showed a totally another face than before, we were not concentrated enough, our defense was weak and unorganised, we have played a very bad match. We have to work more, learn from our mistakes and improve in the next matches.”

Anikó Kovacsics (Hungary):

“I am very happy for this result, even if it became very exciting at the final we could win. I have really hoped before the match that we will have a good start, not like last time and we did it.

It was a tough game, even on the bench I’ve got very tired. Spanish team maybe has underestimated us at the start and we have  surprised them, but in the end we defeated them clearly.”

Viktória Rédei-Soós, Hungarian right back:

“This match has worked out as we wanted before the start. I am very happy that we could play those tactical games, what our coaches has planned and asked us to play, and these has worked out in a positive way.

On the court we looked like a very motivated team, which wants to win and we controlled the game, surprising our opponents with a good start and good defense.

Spanish team is a very strong team, but we have found their weaknesses and turned them in our favor.

My performance was good, but I am not totally satisfied as I had more mistakes also.”

Head-coach of Hungary, Karl-Erik Böhn has stated after the match:

” We were confident that we can defeat Spain and our play has worked out today in a fantastical way. We knew this Spanish team, they don’t have a very strong defense, and we found the openings on their defense.

We took the initiative, having a brilliant start and controlled the game all the match, having all the time an advantage of less one goal.

We have won deserved, and I have to remark Zsuzsanna Tomori, she was outstanding and unstopable.

Spain is not that team to stop them easily in attack, but we have played very clever all the way and collected those important points!”

Spanish backplayer, Nerea Pena, awarded the best player of the match said:

” We have played a bad match, and Hungarians had the best match in this tournament so far. Tomori and goalkeeper Orsolya Herr have played a perfect match  and Hungary have played better than us in every aspects of the game. We have to train more and work on our defense, because today had not worked at all and we will have problems in the Main Round with teams like Montenegro or Russia, having good shooters.

We have been played quiet slowly in this match, both in  attack and in the counter fase, this must be improved. We had a better period in this match but we couldn’t get the tie, Hungary was stronger.”
