
Result: Oltchim Rm.Valcea- FTC Rail-Cargo Hungaria 22-23 (9-10)
Matches of Group II in the Main Round was continued with the clash between Oltchim Rm. Valcea and FTC Rail Cargo Hungaria, on the Romanian team’s court, at Sala Traian in Valcea.
Oltchim will miss Cristina Neagu, seriously injured last week, suffering an anterior ligament torn in her left knee, beeing forced to stay outside the handball court at least six months.
Hungarian FTC has also injury-related problems, as Szandra Zácsik has suffered a shoulder injury in November, last year, and she have to stay on the sideline a while.
Jakob Vestergaard, head-coach of Oltchim: “It will be a difficult game, FTC is the only team which defeated us this season. We have worked a lot, and I know that handball games could be won by having a well-working defense. We are sorry for Neagu’s injury but Alexandrina Barbosa and Adina Meirosu could step in for her. We will treat this match with a maximum seriousity.”
Gábor Elek, head-coach of FTC: ” We will meet an extremely strong opponent. We are well prepared, but this is the opening match of the Main Round, I am curious of what can we show. We would like to achieve a good result, but our opponent had a very various squad, with two high class players for every position, this could decisive, regarding the players power.”
FTC Rail Cargo Hungaria seemed not really impressed of the big names from the opponent’s team, and the two teams has played a very balanced, close first half, where the Hungarian team has the lead of the match after 4-4, they led even by three, 6-9 in 27.min. Elena Abramovich showed a secure goalkeeper play, competing well her colleague on the other side, Ungureanu. Nerea Pena was one of the most dangerous players of Hungarians, meanwhile Bulatovic and Barbosa scored most at the hosts. Half time: 9-10.
The second half started with FTC goals, and Hungarians managed to increase the gap to two goals, 9-11, later they led even by seven goals against Oltchim, 12-19, 47.min of the match. Zsuzsanna Tomori and Nerea Pena were unstoppable, going through Romanians defense quiet easily in this period of the match. Vestergaard made som changes in his team, Jovanovic and Ungureanu bringing a freshness on the court, scoring and managing to close the gap, 21-22. In the dying minutes of the match Pena is scoring again after a 7 meter penalty, got by Tomori, and however Barbosa can do the same on the other side of the court by penalty, guests are collecting the two points, beeing superior to their hosts this evening. Final result: 22-23.
