Tervel: we have to improve our defense

Raphaell Tervel (Győri Audi ETO KC):

“ It was a match without any pressure for us, but we made a lot of mistakes, especially in defense. Our defense was not enough aggressive, we had not tackled the players of the opponent in attack, so I am not satisfied with this match.

Even if it was a turning point in the first part of the second half, when we increased the gap, we made many mistakes and they scored a lot of goals from fast breaks. We have to improve our defense, to stop this type of play from the opponents.

Regarding to semifinals and which would my favorite opponent it’s very difficult to say anything. I am very sorry for FTC that they lost in Russia, and I think that Krim Ljubljana has become a better team than they were in October last year and Valcea is a very strong team as well. If I could choose it would be Krim I think ( laughing).

I also hope that we will play our second semifinal match at home in Hungary, it means a big advantage for every team.”

Anikó Kovacsics (Győri Audi ETO KC):

“ We have prepared for this match as for every other match until now, despite the fact that this match was not a decisive one for us. We had planned to improve our defense, to make it work as good as in the first part of the Main Round, but unfortunately we made mistakes again, which are not allowed at this level.

We managed to win smoothly at home court, but the opponent had scored a lot of fast break goals, that’s why our coach said to us in the break that we have to run home, after missed balls in attack.

We have to focus on maximum in every match, our goal is to make it to the final and to win the trophy, so it’s very important to keep the level of our game and improve it.”

Ulrika Ågren (Randers HK), lineplayer:

“This was not a decisive match for us, and we wanted to give it a meaning. For that reason we split up the game in six parts of ten minutes each, and our goal was to win at least three of these ten minutes parts.

I talked with my coach after the match and we succeeded in this goal of ours, so I very happy.

We have actually used this game as a preparation game before the matches in Danish League . Our squad wasn’t very wide today, we arrived without important players like Macarena Aguilar-ankle injury, Chana Masson-ankle injury and Berit Kristensen –knee injury. That’s why we had today four junior players in the team.

In my opinion we made a good game, our goal was to not let the opponent to score on fast breaks and we managed to keep them on six.”
