Hungarian League started last weekend, and the biggest attraction seen by handball and supporters- side was for sure the match between last years CL-trophy holder, Győri Audi ETO KC as guest of FTC Rail-Cargo Hungaria in the Elek Gyula hall in Budapest.
Győr arrived to Budapest without an injured Anita Görbicz (injury on a finger of her left hand, the playmaker has already gone through surgery, beeing forced to rest at least 4 weeks), meanwhile at FTC Nerea Pena is still on the recovery period, but already on the bench.
FTC is preparing for the CL-qualification tournament, organized in their home hall, and they started the preparation some weeks before Győr.
The match was characterized by an almost permanent FTC-lead, and an outrageous goalkeeper performance showed by Belorussian Alena Abramovich, seconded by an aggressive, strong- almost never seen before FTC defense.
Győr had the same superb goalkeeper performance by Katrine Lunde, but their offensive play was very erratic and uninspired, only Katarina Bulatovic excelled in some periods of the game.
FTC produced a high-quality first half, which ended 12-7, and even Győr managed to reduce the gap to 2 goals at 13-11, hosts kept their calm and won the match by 20-17.
This the first loss of Győr in the domestic league since 1st of Ferbruary 2009, and it was FTC winning against them that time too.
Result:
FTC Rail-Cargo-Hungaria- Győri Audi ETO KC 20-17 (12-7)
Topscorers: Zsuzsanna Tomori (FTC) 7 goals and Katarina Bulatovic (Győr) 5 goals
