Nerea Pena (FTC):

About the match

“We made a really bad game today, we were shocked and our minds were blocked, so every movement was a failure. We tried to get at least one point, we fought in the last quarter, but unfortunatelly it was not enough today”

About Sabine Englert and missed shoots

” She was in a good shape today, we missed a lot, every player had a weak performance, even Zsuzsanna Tomori had a bad day, and we all know that she is our leader, we cannot play without her, we become much weaker.”

About herself

” I had some health issues and had to be at home to take a rest this week. Now I feel better and I came to play today against FCM, because this was a crucial match. I wanted to help my team though I could not train all week.”

About the match

” We had played a very bad match, though we performed well until the result was 9-6. We planned to play patiently, to find the gaps in the opponents defense and take the chances which are hundred percent. Szandra Zácsik had some nice shoots from the distance, so everything worked well in the start of the first half.

Then we made silly mistakes, we could not find the lineplayer, or the Danish defense could intercept the ball from them. Than we begun to run and shouted quickly, and we couldn’t put the ball behind Sabine Englert, which caused again a lot of trouble for our offense.

The Danish team managed score fast and easy goals, and our team blocked, we did not find the right solutions.
I had some hope that we can make it  at the end, but it was not possible.”

About her play

” Personally I showed a very weak performance , I can’t really explain the reasons of that, I have to analyse this match, to be able to improve and solve the problems.”

About the next match against Buducnost

“Against the Buducnost we will have to win, it will be a crucial match, the hosts is supported by many thousands people, it is a very difficult away-court to play on.

But we have to go forward, and go to Montenegro to take the victory. The Balkanian handball- style is easier to approach for us, Danish handball was something totally different, we could not adjust our rhythm to theirs.

Even if we would get the victory in this match, we would have win against Buducnost too, so there is not so big difference from this point of view”

Helle Thomsen, head-coach of FCM:

About the match

” This was a difficult away-court, the hall was perfect, the crowd amazing, but we knew that not so many teams could take points here before. That’s why we have analysed properly the first match against them, and we decided to play after the same tactic. The first match showed that they have very good backplayers and they score a lot of goals from wings, so we tried to stop this, and I mean that it was succesfull from our point of view.

In the second part of the first half and in the second part of the game our defensive play has worked really well and we could run, to score easy goals.

We had a very good Sabine Englert in the goal, with a high saving percent, even if she was not so good against Buducnost last weekend. I have to add, that in Podgorica we had a weak defensive performance, which has also influenced the goalkeeper of course.
But today, she saved a lot of shoots from Tomori, being a goalkeeper with a very good memory about a lot of players. Beside her we had a very good performance also on the left wing, with six goals from the same number of shoots (by Fie Woller and Simone Rasmussen).

Now we are in the Main Round, we are very happy, we had a little celebration here after the match, but of course we would like to win against Lublin also next week.
