Group B, Nis:
Serbia – Denmark 23:22 (12:12)
Topscorer: Lekic 6; Fisker 4, Burgaard 4
The big highlight in today´s Group B matches took place in the evening, when the hosts Serbia met Denmark in a win-or-loose encounter.
The cold-blooded Scandinavians showed good spirit in the early phase and moved on by three goals leaving the spectators shocked.
Serbia however not remained without answer, Andrea Lekic and Co. continued determined and reached the equalizer.
From that moment on, the audience in the Nis Arena saw a nail-biting thriller, each player fought hard for every ball and it was Serbia taking the lead, but Denmark quickly reacted with several new attacking plans by coach Jan Pytlick.
The Danes had the better moment in the end phase of the first period, so they did score the last one by Louise Burgaard and so an exciting last 30 minutes waited for the fans.
The audience pushed hard the locals, but Denmark didn´t shackle and took the lead in the match, however Serbia remained close and brought Biljana Filipovic as new left back.
However the Danes controlled the game well and Serbia failed in attacks and couldn´t turn the game for several minutes. Nevertheless the audience helped again and they set the Danes under big pressure, whilst the hosts go wings to fly and so nine minutes before the final whistle Serbia took the lead and extended it to three goals. Denmark were unable to score and the difference only melted to one goal, so Serbia celebrated a well-deserved victory.
