France and Japan met in the second eight-final match of the day, in Kombank Arena.
France would be after many opinions clearly the team with better chances to win this battle, but Japan showed a great ambition, and with their unusually offensive defense and fast attack they surprised the French team and the result was quiet close until minute 25 of the first half, 4 – 4, 6 – 5, 8 – 7. Then the girls of Alain Porter managed to increase the lead to 10 -7 and the first half ended by 12 – 9.
In the second half France has Amandine Leynaud in the goals,but Japan managed to equalize and even take the lead, at 15-14 in the second half.Then the French team showed a ten minutes without received goal, they controlled the game, keeping the lead and increasing it, managing to win their first knock-out match, qualifying to the quarter finals where they will meet Poland.
Final result: 27 – 19.
