The fifth match of eight finals is organized in Novi Sad, between Hungary and Spain. The two teams met each other last year also in the Main Round stage of the ECh, that time Hungary took the victory.
Today is another match, a difficult one for both teams. Spain has qualified to the eight finals with four victories and one defeat against Norway, proving their level.
Hungary has been defeated by Romania and Germany. Otherwise they have won the other matches from the group against Czech republic, Tunisia and Australia.
The winner of this match will play in the quarter finals with the winner of the match between Brazil and Netherlands.
The match started with Hungarian goal from Zita Szucsánszki, then Marta Lopez but the ball behind Kiss form the right wing. Than the teams played a close, balanced games, with small advantages in both sides, 1 – 2, 3 – 4, 5 – 6. Hungary raised the tempo, and after 5 – 7 they scored four times by Tomori, Soós and Vérten -twice and took the lead at 9- 7.
Jorge Duenas took his timeout to stop the Hungarian storm, but Anita Görbicz and company kept the lead and managed to increase it, 11 – 9, 1 3 – 9, winning the first half by 17 – 12.
Topscorer of the first half is right winger from Spain, Marta Lopez with four goals.
The second half started with a Spanish come-back, three goals by playmaker Macarena Aguilar on breakthrough, Nerea Pena scored from seven meter, Silvia Navarro saved three balls and Hungarian János Hajdu, called his second time-out, 19 – 17, minute 37.
Big clash between the two teams on the court, but Hungary managed to keep the lead and increase the gap, 21 – 18, 24 – 20, 25 – 20, minute 56 of the match.
Szandra Zácsik, Krisztina Triscsuk, Éva Kiss added small details to the Hungarian play and Hungary won the match and qualify to the quarter finals.
Final result: 28 – 21.
