In the bronze final of the WCh met two teams which has Danish coaches, Jan Pytlick, who’s team has never managed to win a bronze-medal until now and Kim Rasmussen,who’s team Poland has never ever qualified to a bronze-final. Seen form this view the bronze would have been a real success for both teams and not a consolation, as the bronze medals used to be in such competitions.
The first half of the game started with a slight Danish advantage. 2-1, 4-2, 5-3 in the beginning, with a good working Danish defense in this period, but Poland managed to equalize at 5-5 and to turn over the result after 7-7, 8-8, 9-9, winning the last eight minutes by 3-5.
Denmark had a real leader in left winger Ann Grethe Nörgaard, scoring 5 goals including seven meters. On the opposite side, backplayer Alina Wojtas opened good the match and after a weaker period she scored very important three goals and served the lineplayer, Patrycja Kulwinska to score three as well and getting some penalties for Poland. Penalties at the beginning of teh match was missed by the Polish team, but the third one was sat by Karolina Kudlacy.
Poland had an advantage of five goals, 10-15, but Denmark managed to reduce the gap in the dying minutes of the first part, when Kristian Kristiansen and Maria Fisker netted after fast breaks for Denmark.
Half time: 12-15.
The second half started with a Danish storm, where Kristina Kristiansen, Line Jörgensen, Mette Gravholt managed to put the ball behind the Polish keepers, Poland tried to stop them, and managed to keep a slight advantage in the first ten minutes, 17-20, 18-20, 19-21.
But Denmark made a 5-0 between minute 43 and 47, managed to equalize thanked to Kristiansen and to take the lead, increasing the gap 24-21. Polish team loose control of the game, couldn’t manage to stop Kristiansen’s playmaking, her quick feet-work and movements was lethal today for Kim Rasmusen’s team.
Rikke Poulsen in the Danish goal has improved her saving percentage, Kristina Kristiansen was outstanding, scoring ten by herself and Denmark won without doubt the bronze .
Final result: 30 – 26.
