Seeking continuity, Brazil Women National Team plays a friendly match on Sunday

Little over a month after the title in Serbia, Brazilian players and the country itself are still enjoying the idea of being world champions. Now, some athletes that watched from home the final against the Serbians are having the opportunity to pull on the green and yellow. A practice phase and a friendly match against Dominican Republic are scheduled to take place in São Bernardo do Campo City this weekend.

Twenty players are in the roster. Only four went to Serbia and some are newcomers in the National Team. That is due to the long term project developed by coach Morten Soubak, assistant Alex Aprile and their staff. Brazil is already targeting upcoming competitions and preparing key players for those. Besides the court activities, players are also having classes on investments and making visits to Correios, the national post service and one of the main sponsors of Brazil Handball.

Among the players is Patrícia Matieli, who played for São Paulo based Liga Itapeviense in the last season. She contributed to the team on and off the court and talked about being called to the National Team right after the world title. “I see this work as continuity and I am very happy to be here. I believe this is a consequence of the work that I have done last year with my team and I will work hard to help Brazil from now on”.

According to Patrícia playing against the Centre American team will be a key test in this process. “We are expecting a tough game, Dominican Republic has been doing a great job in developing their Handball but we are also eager to play our best and win the match”.
