Champions League, women

Round 5

Group D

Metz Handball –  Larvik HK 25 – 26 (13 – 13)

Topscorers: Paule Baudouin (Metz) 10 goals and  Nora Mörk (Larvik) 7 goals

Important match for the French champion in order to secure the qualification to the Main Round. Larvik is already in next stage, but every point is crucial, since this group is very balanced behind Larvik, is almost impossible to know which teams will make it to the MR.

Metz was in lead  during long periods of the game, it was equal after the break and in the last seconds, when Nora Mörk earned a penalty after a fast counter attack, and Anja Hammerseng Edin put the ball behind Pierson form the seven meter line. Larvik won another drama after that in Baia Mare, which ended 23-24 for Norwegians too.

On Sunday, next match:

MKS Selgros Lublin –  HCM Baia Mare 22 – 28 (10 – 10)

Topscorers: Marta Gega and Malgorzata Rola (Lublin) 4 goals each and Valentina Ardean-Elisei, Elisa Buceschi, Anastasya Lobach and Alexandra Do Nascimemnto Martinez (HCM Baia Mare) 4 goals each

Beside Lublin and Metz, HCM Baia Mare keeps hopes to advance to the Main Round too, but next weekends matches will be decisive. Lublin will visit Larvik, and HCM Baia Mare will host the encounter against Metz Handball.

The second and third place of the group is still  widely open, exciting until the end.
