Goalkeeper Kari Aalvik Grimsbö has suffered a meniscus injury on the outside of her right knee. She has been replaced by Emily Stang Sando, who is Grimsbö’s teamate in Team Esbjerg(Denmark).
The 28-year-old Grimsbö suffered the injury in Norway’s opening match in Group B against Romania, and medical tests on Monday showed that the injury will sideline her for at least the rest of this week.
“Unfortunately, injuries are part of handball, and they always come at inconvenient times. We are happy that Kari’s great performance (against Romania) contributed to a great start for us at the EURO 2014, and we hope to see her back soon,” said Norway’s national coach Thorir Hergeirsson.
In the absence of the pregnant Katrine Lunde, many Norwegian hopes were attached to Grimsbö , having a great season so far in Esbjerg,
“Right now I am extremely disappointed and sad, as this injury came at an extremely inconvenient time. However, I still have hopes to get will pretty fast,” said Grimsbö.
