At the beginning of the game Spain and Romania were chasing each other, meanwhile Ungureanu and Navarro showing highclass performance in the goals.

Navarro had got injured (her eye has been hit by the ball) after 7 minutes, but Temprano replaced her succesfully. Romania was in lead 2-4, 4-5, but Spain levelled the game at six and grabbed the lead, 7-6. Pinedo on leftwing seemed to ake the role of Carmen Martin from the earlier matches, Romanians was hold in the game by Ungureanu, Chiper  and Tacalie.

Temprano caused huge problems for Romanians with her parades (57% after first half), Neagu had no moments in front of Spanish defense, Pena, Cabral and Martin were effective in attack, all this meant increased Spanish lead, 13 -9 (27.minute), and 14 – 9 in half time for Duenas’s team.

The second part of the game Romanians had a flying start, scoring four goals in a row, Neagu, Ciuciulete, Elisei and Chintoan netting for Tadici’s team,after 9 minutes Spain was not able to put the ball behind a fantastic Paula Ungureanu, and her colleague Dedu. who saved a penalty against Marta Lopez, 14 – 13 (39.min).

Neagu levelled the game at 16- 16 (15.min), but Pinedo put Spain in lead once again. Many technical erros were comitted by both teams, but Romania managed to take the lead ten minutes before the final whistle. In the next period of the match  both Spain and Romania were in lead, and the two goalkeepers has showed a fantastic performance.

19 – 20 for Romania, after Bradeanu scored from distance shoot and Neagu transformed a seven meter in the dying minutes, 19-21.

Jorge Duenas called his timeout, Spain had to try to get at least one point here, but Ungureanu was invincible today in the goal, she saved her team several times from more goals, Spanish players became insecure in fron of Romanian goal and that cost them the victory.

Final result: 20 – 22

“We have as much chance to go to the next round as Denmark. They have to win today. And in two days, we will face each other. (Kristina) Kristiansen is the motor of the Danish team. Also their goalkeepers are playing very good games. They play as a team, that’s what I like about them.”

“Our shooting was the key why we lost this game. Romania didn’t win this game, we lost it. We had good defence, so they could not score many times. But we missed many opportunities because of their goalkeeper.”

“We really wanted to win this game, and we are very happy. We didn’t play so well in the first half, but in the second half we fought  really hard and in the end we were the team who wins the match.”

“Our first half was not good, it was hard for us to come back after the loss against Hungary (19:20 on Saturday). Our moral was not good after that match. The second half we just keep going and we have Paula in goal. “
