Topscorers: Jenny Alm (IK Savehof ) 9 goals and Eliza Buceschi (HCM Baia Mare) 8 goals

Baia Mare kept their hopes alive to qualify in the qurter finals of the CL.

Before the match:

This match is maybe the biggest clash in this round, last two years title holder, Győr meets Larvik, which has a very good team, but lately we could learn that they are in a critical period, economically they are down, and if they won’t be able to aqire 5 million Norwegian krones before 20th of February, the club may be bankrupted.

Sad story (you can read more about this subject HERE) and we really hope that Larvik will survive as handballclub, because they are absolutelly one of the favourites to earn a Final Four berth alongside with their todays opponent, hosts from Győr.

On the other hand Győr had been decimated by pregancies and injuries during this season: Görbicz and Lunde got pregnant, AMorim, Orbán and Grubusuc (transferred to replace Lunde) got serious knee injuroes, all three are out for at least six months.
Ambros Martin and the team has a difficult task to accomplish, to be able to handle the press, which is caused of the many injuries and absences, and on the other hand to  work out some totally new strategies and tactics  which fits to the new composition of the team.

1422822802bx_eto6Győr was active also on the transfer market this winter, they signed a young Brasilian lineplayer, Tamires Morena, a rightwinger, Jana Knedlikova (Czech Republic- Mosonmagyaróvár) and a new goalkeeper, which the club had to buy out from her current contract with Danish Team Esbjerg, Norwegian goalie, Kari Aalvik Grimsbö (she will not play yet, due to recovery after an injury in December).

The match started with a change of goals, teh two teams were chasing each other, 2-2, 5-5. 7-7, than Larvik took the kead at 7-9. TO for Győr was called by AMbros Martin, at the middle of the first half.

Anikó Kovacsics  has scored six goals in the first 20 minutes in the game, acting like a real leader.

Győr managed to equalize 10-10, Gjekstad called timeout for Larvik. The timeout seemed to be effective, Larvik sored 4 more goals, mostly after Győr’s mistakes, scoring on fast counterattcks.

1422822799gV_eto13Susan Müller got injured in the last minuted of the first half, probably an ankle injury, she could not continue the match.

Ten minute before the end, Győr has a lead of 25-23,  Kovacsics reached ten scorings, and Herr  saved in very important moments for hosts. With the support of a fantastic homecrowd Győr showed a strong defense, but they had trouble to stop Wojtas shooting from backplayer position, the Polish gitls scored two importnat goals in the dying minutes and the score became equal again: 25 -25.

Exciting final play, timeout for hosts, Aguilar missed a shoot, Hasanic made some important saves in the Larvik’s goal after she replaced Toft in the minute 40. of the game.
