For the third time in a row, HC Taubaté is the Club Pan American Champion, thus qualifying for the IHF Super Globe in Qatar. And this time, coach Marcus Tatá and his staff built up an even stronger team.
Despite the transfers of playmaker Diogo Hubner and leftback Gustavo Nakamura, Taubaté signed with playmaker Fernando Pacheco and lineplayer Vinicius Teixeira, both from EC Pinheiros, thus completing a world class squad.
And the final match was exactly against Pinheiros. A victory by 26-20 guaranteed a spot in Qatar, followed by a huge celebration by the many fans in Emecal Arena in Taubaté City.
“I’d like to thank fans for the support, we play for them and for ourselves. Their support was crucial here”, said goalkeeper Rick Miles. “We are going to work even harder in order to take on the European clubs and any other team we play in Qatar”.
“We will seize every game ahead of us to evolve and work all aspects. Super Globe is getting more difficult”, said Vinicius.
Argentinean River Plate took the bronze. “This medal is very important for us. It is always difficult to play in Brazil due to the difference in quality. I believe we played a good role but faced problems in our attack, said captain Pablo Portela.
