Norwegian Handball Federation has organized the presentation of the Norwegian national team for World Championship in Denmark.

In the squad are three debutants, but the biggest surprise (someone can say even shock) is the fact that Katrine Lunde (Rostov Don) did not get a place in the WCh-squad.

Thorir Heirgersson, Mia Högdahl Hermansson and Matts Olsson – the coaching team of the Norwagian NT has made their assesments and selected the following squad:

Goalkeepers: Silje Solberg (TTH), Kari Aalvik Grimsbö (Győri Audi ETO KC)

Backplayers: Bettina Riegelhuth (Team Esbjerg), Mari Molid (Larvik HK), Stine Bredal Oftedal (Issy Paris), Nora Mörk (Larvik HK), Linn Jörum Sulland (Győri Audi ETO KC), Marta Tomac (Vipers Kristiansand), Veronica Kristoansen (Fc Midtjylland)

Wings: Sanna Solberg (Larvik HK), Camilla Herrem (TTH), Amanda Kurtovic (Larvik HK), Stine Skogrand (Tertnes)

Lineplayers: Heidi Löke (Győri Audi ETO KC), Pernille Wibe (Issy Paris), Vilde Mortensen Ingstad (Oppsal)

Thorir Heirgersson was criticised by handball experts at the official press conference after he announced the squad, mostly becaus eof the goalkeeper-choice. Here is his answer:

“We’re talking about three of the best goalkeepers in the world. We have chosen to take with two of them. We have a strong gut feeling that Kari Aalvik Grimsbø and Silje Solberg represents the best keeper-pair at the moment,

“We feel that these two are smoother and closer in sport shape. The gut says that it is the right pair. Katrine has had some rough games in the fall. She has had some good and some less good matches. She is going strong but she is not there yet. It is not easy to put out a goalkeeper like Katrine Lunde. Every player who is not in the squad, is disappointed of course. ”

Goalkeeper trainer of Norwegian NT, Mats Olsson, about goalkeeper-choice:

“Our assessment, based on what we’ve seen this fall, is that Lunde is a cut behind Grimsbø and Solberg both technically, tactically and physically. The differences are in no way big, and it’s not that she is no longer a quality keeper, but we see it so she has little left to go before she is back to peak level.”
