Kolding, Sydbank Arena
Group C
Argentina – Congo 23-15 (11-10)
Topscorers: Manuela Pizzo (ARG) 5 goals and Christiane Mwange Mwasesa (COD) 6 goals
Not a top match between a South American and an African team, but definitelly an important one in order to make handball more popular and wider spread in the world.
Close first half, but Argentina managed to win and gain two important points in this group.
France – Germany 30-20 (16-7)
Topscorers:Allison Pineau and Alexandra Lacrabére (FRA) 7 and 6 goals /Susan Müller (GER) 9 goals
Somehow the result it could be called surprising as France and Germany sounds two of the stronger teams from Europe, but some problems and conflicts plus injuries pushed down the German team, and they can’t really make it to work. Headcoach Jakob Vestergaard had some challenging task for the next games.
On the other hand, France looks like a compact team, with good energies, strong defense, high class goalkeeper, as Leynaud saved over fifty percent of the balls, top shape of Allison Pineau and a lot of experience in the team.
Huge difference as ten goals was just not expected in this game. Definitelly a surprise.
Brazil – Korea 24-24 (10-12)
Topscorers: Ana Paula Rodriquez Belo (BRA) 7 goals and Eun Hee Ryu (KOR) 7 goals
The match of the group C could be definitely called the encounter between the reigning world champions from Brasil and South Korea, team which is always very eager in before the Olympics tournaments.
Brasil seemed to have problems all the game, the trouble could be avoided only because Barbara Arenhart had a great day in the goal, making important saves in crucial moments.
In the dying minutes South Korea had a two goals advantage, 24-22, but Alexandra Do Nascimento made the impossible possible, scoring in the last second of the match from a sharp angle on rightwing, securing the draw and one points in this thriller.
Best player of the match: Barbara Arenhart (BRA)
