Norwegian defence neutralised Romanian efficiency

Norwegian defence neutralised Romanian efficiency

Before the match: Romanian team has a new headcoach, Swedish Tomas Ryde. The players was talking about that they are not stressed as under Tadici and they can use their heads to make a good game.

Tadici declared for a Romanian newspaper after Romania lost last game against Spain, that “Ryde is just confusing the players at timeouts, so it would be better to sent him home,…”

The ex-headcoach of Romania can’t stand that he was fired and replaced by a foreigner, who was not an active coach in the last years.

Swedish Ryde is well known of Norways staff as goalkeeper coch Matts Olsson is his olda freind, they playes handball together and assistent coach of Norway, Swedish Mia Hermansson played under Ryde.

Romania-Norway 22 – 26 (10- 13)

Topscorers: Cristina Neagu (ROU)  8 goals and  Nora Mørk (NOR)  7 goals

Best player of the match: Veronica Kristiansen (NOR)-6 goals

Norway took a flying start, 3-8 for Scandinavians  after fifteen minutes – Oftedal, Mørk, Herrem or Kurtovic could not miss, Grimsbø closed the goal.

Cristina Neagu was carefully kept in silence by Norwegian defense, she managed to score her first goal from distance after seventeen minutes of play.

Norway had a slowdown in the last period of the first half, Romani made a comeback due first of all to Eliza  Buceschi. The young Romanian netted several times and was the most  dangerous player of Romanians.

Half time: 10-13.

The second half started with a 2-7 for Norwegian team, Romania was down – literally, 12-20.

Strange decisions from Romanian headcoach, Tomas Ryde, keeping Eliza Buceschi on bench, the 22 years old player had a really good day, sharp shoots and very hungry to score. She sat twenty minutes, and was sent to the court when the match was almost decided.

On the other side Mari Molid made an excellent defense, Veronica Kristiansen scored in crucial moments fro Norway, Silje Solberg stopped the wingshoots of Romanians and Stine Oftedal just made the play even faster as usually.

Last ten minutes brought a Romanian comeback, Neagu scored totally eight goals, but she was obstructed during entire game to play her efficient play.

Final result: 22-26.

Veronica Kristiansen(NOR), leftback:

“Our offensive play was totally new today, we never used it before in a match and it was successfull. We had also a good  defense and that determined the thread of the match and the final result.”

Mari Molid (NOR), leftback, defence player:

“I am satisfied with our defense, it was the most important today, to tackle the Romanian sharp shooters. We made some mistakes also, but we managed to keep our advantage and win the match. In addition I also managed to score twice,  I am very happy.”

To be able to finish on the second place of the group Norway has to win Spain, and could  probably meet Germany from Group C in the eightfinals.

Thorir Hergeirsson( NOR), headoach:

“The defense has decided the thread od the match, that was the most important today. We managed to neutralize what was really efficient for Romanian attack.

“We started very well both halfs and we managed to controll the tempo of the play, than everything works for us.

” We got hotheaded in some periods of the match, what  can be improved, with more gained experience and discipline, but we managed to calm down when we needed.”
