Denmark vs Sweden were set to be a thriller in Jyske Bank Boxen arena. A match that could tip both ways where many experts had set their money on Sweden. Today nothing could stop Denmark from success, and the big reason for that were 12.500 spectators that put the pressure on the swedish team from the minute they entered the court to they got off. And, they lifted Denmark to a level we’ve not seem from them in this tournament.
“Amazing to be on the court today, and feel how the spectators lifted us up to another level”, danish Ann Grete Nørgaard stated after the match.
Good start for Denmark
Denmark got off from start and played fast handball with less faults and more aggressive play than the last matches. ANd, today all seemed to work much better. Kristina Kristiansen got her play to function, Anne Mette Hansen continues to show her extreme qualities and both Stine Jørgensen and Line Jørgensen kept the swedish goalkeeper busy.
With an eight goal advantage at half time Denmark could go to the dressing room with a huge confidence that the quarter final were in reach. Even if Sweden in short times in second half delivered a little better play and could see light in the tunnel at 17-20, Denmark closed that door quickly.
Sweden never got closer and could just see the Denmark secure an impressive victory of 26-19
Denmark vs Sweden 26 – 19 (15 – 7)
Topscorers: Stine Jørgensen (DEN) 6 goals and Johanna Ahlm (SWE) 5 goals
