After the first semifinal of the World Championship, won by the Dutch team clearly, we talked with coaches and players:
Nycke Groot, playmaker-Netherlands-Best player of the match:
About the match
” It was a great match, but it was difficult, I fell very tired right now. We played as a team, we trained so hard and so much to get here, I am very happy for what we achieves.
About handball in Netherlands
” In my country as you know handball is quiet mall, I played when I was young home, but when I was eighteen I had to move to Denmark and here I improved and became the player I am today. And all my teammates done the same , they play in clubs from France, Germany, Denmark or Norway to be able to maintain the level of our play and to win matches like this today.
“When I was a child, like every girl which starts to play handball had a dream to be among the best, but to be here right now and to be able to say that I am in the final is the biggest achievement of my career.
About the final
” Now we have already a medal, but we don’t want to stop here, we are ready to take the fight and go highest possible.
Hank Groener, headcoach-Netherlands:
“We are in the finals of the World Championship, we had a long way to be a ble to reach this. We already met Poland in the group-matches, there we also won, but I knew that it won’t be as easy now, since is always harder to meet the same team twice in a tournament.
” In the second half Poland ha d a good period, when they scored fast goals, shrinking the difference quickly, so I have to change the situations. After a timeout and I sent Nycke to the court, and she made some wise decisions which helped us to keep our advantage and qualify to the final.
“Now we will celebrate a little than we will prepare the next match against Romania or Norway.
Anna Wysokinska, goalkeeper-Poland:
“I am really disappointed right now, becuase we wanted so much this final. But today Holland was the better team, this is the true. I know that we could play better, do better, save more balls, bu today it was not possible. I could not say that we were more tired, we played the same number of matches than them, they just were better.”
Kim Rasmussen, headcoach – Poland:
“We did not played a good defense, we received too many fastbreaks goals today in the first half. It took too long to shake off that previous game and to manage to play handball. I am proud because we fought back in the second half, but today Netherlands was the better team and they deserved to win.
In the next match we will fight for medals, we have to put behind us today’s defeat and just start to play handball as we really know in the bronze match.”
