Thorir Hergeirsson: “Long-term strategy and winning culture…”

Norway has qualified to their sixth final in a World Championship, headcoach Thorir Hergeirsson talked about the game, the team, the change of generations in the Norwegian national team, the physical shape and the knowledge and expereince about deciding tight games, again and again!

About the semifinal against Romania

“The match was as tough, as exciting, as close and as difficult as expected, but we knew what are our qualities and how we can make them troubles. We made a first half in attack which is more than good, but we had problems in defense during all the match, so lost we Mari Molid also.

About Romania

” This is a good team, with top players which managed to play as a team now, and the fact that they defeated Brazil and than Denmark, with 12 thousand Danes against them, shows power.

About his team

“I am very satisfied that my young team (with mean age 24,2 years) managed to decide this game in that way they did, with extratimes and all the excitement around. Of course Löke and Alstad helped a lot with their experience here in the last minutes, but all in all this young squad was never in the same situation to play a decisive semifinal in such way.

It was even better to have two more extra times, and victory after that, it could give even more experience to my team!

About the culture to win decisive games

” This team is compact both on the court and outside that. This is what the sport is about. This team has a winning culture, even if the players are changed substantially. To decide sharp games, to be able to win decisive matches again and again has nothing to do with luck.

” This is teamsport on the highest level, and Olimpiatoppen with Marit Breivik has a big role in this. In addition the national team had only three coaches in 30 years. Long-term strategy and having focus on every player individually is the key of success.

About final and the opponent

” It could be the very same game as in semifinal, Holland is a very good team, which is cruising through this tournament, without being defeated until now.I predict a difficult, sharp game which can go in extratimes. We will analyse Netherland, starting as soon as possible.

“Met them in Möbelringen Cup before WCh and they scored thirty goals on us. so we have to raise inn defense against them.

“My team and I want to win of course, so it won’t be easy to them to do whatever they want against us.
