EHF Euro 2016 – Gdansk: opening match predictions

16.01.16 18:00 hrs Hungary vs Montenegro

It could be the most important match from this group for both teams, as Hungary may need to win against Montenegro in order to secure a berth in the Main Round, and the same is valid for Montenegro too. Hungarian team has some experienced players, with Mikler, L.Nagy, Iváncsik or Schuch, but nine players in the squad are participating for the first time at a major tournament- and this can fire both ways. Montenegro has a good mix of experienced  and young players, but the team has no much of a past in European Championships, they  came here to take their first ever victory. This means that they can play without any pressure, meanwhile for Hungary this should be a mandatory victory. However the possible emotions, most likely Hungary will win this match.

Prediction: Hungary by three.

16.01.16 20:15 hrs Denmark vs Russia

Denmark is considered of the specialists one of the major gold-medal favourites in this EURO, and so they are in this match.

A team with Hansen, Landin, Lindberg or Nøddesbø should be able to get a clear victory against Russia, which has a new team, with some names sounding familiar from Champions League-Diborov, Shiskarev or Gorbok and a new head-coach in Torgovanov. Will be a tough game, where Denmark will win.

Prediction: Denmark by three.
