It was anything but easy for one of the big favorites to win the tournament, Spain, in its first game of the tournament against a German side which just produced too many mistakes to upset the 2013 World Champion. That’s why THW Kiel’s playmaker Joan Canellas was quite excited after the match. “We played against a very good and talented team. Germany has a lot of young players and I think they will do great in future tournaments. That’s why we are very satisfied with the result because it wasn’t easy.”
Looking forward to the game against Slovenia on Monday, he added: “We played them a lot of times and we know them quite well. They have fast players, so we have to be careful on defense and avoid turnovers. But I’m confident we will be able to do that.” Spain leads Group C after the first match day, on level points with Sweden. Currently Slovenia ranks third with Germany in last place.
