Germany advanced to the main round of the EHF EURO 2016 thanks to another step forward on defense and to a deep bench. Martin Strobel, a starter back at the World Championship in Qatar a year ago, has adapted well to his new role and was able to help his team today in what looked like an easy win for the Germans. “I’m always happy if I can help the team personally, but it’s a team sport and the most important thing is that we won today. That’s all that matters.”
Strobel, who replaced Christian Dissinger early on when Steffen Fäth switched to the left-back position because Dissinger was already suspended twice, scored just one time on one shot, but his calm playing style was the perfect match for a young German team in a decisive encounter. Now the focus shifts to the main round. “We all know the Danish team, they are the favorites, but we won’t underestimate Hungary and Russia for sure. I think the group is wide open and we can win or lose all three games.”
