Just a few days after the HSG Wetzlar has signed high-scoring left-wing Maximilian Holst to a long-term contract extension, the club was able to agree on a new deal with EHF EURO 2016 champion Jannik Kohlbacher. The 20-year old line-player has signed a contract until the summer of 2018. His old deal would have expired after next season. Kohlbacher is one of the top talents on his position in European handball, very popular with the fans and especially the younger ones because of his outspoken and funny character.
“Jannikhas done a tremendous job so far and is probably the best young player of the season being just 20 years old,” said Björn Seipp, the club’s manager, in a statement released by the HSG earlier today. “His performances, especially with the national team, have made him interesting for other clubs as well. That’s why we are delighted that we were able to sign him to a longer deal.” Kohlbacher, who is playing his first season in the DKB Handball-Bundesliga, has been present in all but one game so far and scored 70 goals. He made his debut with the national team in November.
