Earlier today IHF awarded the “wild card” to Norway for the 2017 World Championship in France.
The award is based on Norway’s results in the latest championships, among those Norways 4th place in the European Championships in Poland earlier this year, and that Norway is ranked number 1 from EHF if one of the qualified teams withdraws.
The Norwegian Handball Federation accepted the award immediately, and can now prepare to go to France in January 2017.
Since no teams from Oceania will participate, there had been a free spot for the championship for a long time. Back in March 2016 IHF messaged all nations that the place goes to Europe. And, in the end Norway got the place.
The draw for the groups will take place Thursday 23rd of June 2016.
