Rio 2016: Russian 15 set for the OG

Rio 2016: Russian 15 set for the OG

After beating Sweden and finishing third in the “Cocoa from Ghana” Tournament in the Netherlands, Evgeny Trefilov published his 15-player-squad for the upcoming Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Ludmila Postnova suffered an injury not much before the announcement of the final squad, so the sharpshooter won’t be a part of Russia’s team for the OG. However, being named by Trefilov doesn’t mean a secure ticket for the Russian girls – the Russian Olympic Federation’s case is still being examined and discussed because of a doping scandal. In case of a negative decision, the whole Russian Olympic Team would have to miss the Olympic Games. The Russian athletics team is already banned from Rio.

Russia’s 15 players:
Anna Sedoykina (goalkeeper)
Tatyana Erokhina (goalkeeper)
Viktoriya Kalinina (goalkeeper)
Anna Vyakhireva (right wing)
Marina Sudakova (right wing)
Irina Bliznova (right back)
Anna Sen (right back)
Ekaterina Ilina (playmaker)
Darya Dmitrieva (playmaker)
Olga Akopyan (left back)
Vladlena Bobrovnikova (left back)
Viktoriya Zhilinskayte (left back)
Polina Kuznetsova (left wing)
Ekaterina Marennikova (left wing)
Mayya Petrova (pivot)
