In Group D Team Esbjerg paid a visit to IK Savehof in the new arena from Partille. Last week Team Esbjerg made their CL debut in a rampant way, running over Krim Ljubljana, meanwhile, Swedish champions won Larvik on the away court, producing one of the first round’s biggest surprises.
Esbjerg gave no mercy from the start, opening with 0-3, 2-8, 3-10 against a nervous host. IK Savehof could not manage to score in the first part of the game, but the half ended 10-15. Laura van der Heijden continued as eager as she finished the first CL match, Filippa Idehn was outstanding in the Danish goal and Esbjerg got more and more confidence.
The second half brought a minor comeback of the host, they managed to come as close as 19 -21 ten minutes before the end, but Esbjerg pulled themselves together after a timeout of head coach Lars Fredriksen, and made a 0-4, 19-25, deciding the game.
