FTC and Leipzig played a surprisingly close and tense game last weekend, the Hungarians beat the Germans with a smaller margin than expected, still a victory doesn’t need to be explained. Saskia Lang and Karolina Kudlacz-Gloc returned to the team in Leipzig, FTC’s Klára Szekeres was also back, while Dóra Hornyák and Orsolya Monori had to stay in Budapest because of injury. FTC started the match showing this one will be easier than it was a week ago. The Hungarian defense and Melinda Szikora were working well together, and only Anne Hubinger seemed to be ready to break the barriers. FTC was clearly the better team on the court, playing on a higher level than a week ago, while the Germans struggled to find the key to the defense of the Hungarian silver medalists. The Germans also made a lot of easy mistakes in attack which lead to quick goals for FTC. The first half ended with a comfortable 6-goal lead for the Hungarians (8-14).
The second half didn’t seem to change anything in the match flow. Although Leipzig scored quick goals after each other to reduce the difference to four goals, Nele Reimer received a direct red card for her fault against Nadine Schatzl. After the red card, German coach Norman Rentsch tried to play with 7 against 6 but this didn’t seem to work out well for his team: FTC players could score easily in the empty goal. Leipzig didn’t have the power to keep the rhythm and they seemed powerless during the whole match. FTC continued with a strong defense against the not so strong German attacks. The second half was even more in favour of FTC, the difference only grew minute by minute between the two sides. The two points were not in doubt for the Hungarians, the only question was if the difference will be one or two digits. This time, the away match was a lot easier than the home game for FTC: they won 30-17. With their confident victory in Germany, the Hungarians have already qualified for the Main Round.
