After Sweden took their first victory as host nation, defeating Spain without doubts- the head coaches and players analyzed the game:
Henrik Signell, Swedish head coach says that the key of the game was their improved defence:
“We have worked hard with our defence for a long time. We weren’t satisfied after the Olympics but now we have another attitude and we work together. That was the main key for the victory.”
“It‘s a good feeling now, it can be a big pressure to be the home nation but its just a good feeling.”
Jorge Duenas, head coach of Spain:
“We played very good and our defence worked well. But after around 20 minutes we lost a lot of balls in attack and Sweden took the advantage in counter attacks. In addition , the Swedish goalkeeper made fantastic second half. That was the difference“
Ida Oden (SWE) – right back
“Playing in our homeland helped a lot, the audience was lovely and the whole arena was yellow today, it was the best game I ever played in Sweden. We played very good in defence and our goalkeeper was very good, so I think we controlled the game
“Every game at the EURO is difficult, so no game we can take “easily”. Today we can be happy and tomorrow we are going to prepare for Slovenia.”
Silvia Navarro (ESP) – goalkeeper
“We committed a lot of mistakes and they played better. It was also psychological. When Sweden started to get the advantage, we started to play worse and worse and we made a chain of errors.”
On the next match:
“We just need to start to think about the next match against Serbia and try to be more focused on our game and play as usual, not like today.”
