Slovenia came up with the surprise of the tournament so far, defeating Sweden in Stockholm. Therefore, their happiness was understandable.
Uros Bregar (SLO)
“This match for us was easier than the first one because we were without pressure. We came out as winners but they (Sweden) are still one of the best team in the world. This is like a miracle for my team that we won this match today. I‘m really proud of my girls and it doesn’t matter if this victory is not enough to go to the main round. We respect Sweden a lot but we had something in ourselves after the match against Serbia, which we finished badly. We want to show all the world that we deserve to be in this championship.”
Neli Irman (SLO)
“We are very happy because we were a little bit down after the first match. We talked about what was wrong and we said we should be more aggressive. We didn’t have anything to lose, we did everything and we won.”
It is a huge accomplishment for Slovenia to win in an atmosphere where everybody supports the other team, but this was rather an extra power for them:
“This atmosphere is good, for us is good even though they didn’t support us. It’s nice to be here, it’s easy to play in this atmosphere”.
If they are able to surprise Spain too? We will have the answer on Thursday.
“We watched the first match of Spain, we have now one day to prepare well for the match and we should go in with everything.”
The hosts were obviously not happy with their performance against Sweden.
Louise Sand (SWE)
“The first half was good, then I think that we gave it away, we gave this match to them. Now we have to talk about the game, and then forget it so that we can fully focus on the next game.”
Henrik Signell (SWE)
“Slovenia is a good team and played a lot better in defense than against Serbia. I‘m not surprised at all.”
Signell doesn’t think that the win against Spain has made his team overconfident before the match and he is also expecting a tough game against Serbia on Thursday.
“It is a big pressure at first and we were looking forward to the first match of the tournament. Spain is a really good team and to win that one was satisfying, but we knew it was a group of equal teams and three tough matches.”
Jamina Roberts (SWE)
It is amazing to play in Sweden, even though there were not as many people today. But it is really nice and it feels really bad to lose in front of them.”
