The second match of the Main Round Group I was played between hosts from Sweden and Netherlands in front of 6110 spectators in Scandinavium Arena in G0teborg. An interesting and an exciting match was to be expected as the head coach of Dutch team, Helle Thomsen was the head coach of Sweden not so long time ago (2014 and this year before the Olympics).
Sweden has qualified for the Main Round with three points as Netherland has brought only two.
The first half was dominated by shining goalkeepers, Tess Wester for guests and Filippa Idehn for host kept a high level, the two teams stayed very close all the time, but the Dutch girls got a slight advantage in the last ten minutes of the first half and managed to take one goal advantage to locker rooms.
Netherland was the team which started better the second half, Polman, Visser, Broch were the scorers. Neither of the two teams could build a bigger advantage, and Maura Visser got a red card, because referees meant that she hit Bundsen intentionally in the head during a shoot. Netherland had one goal advantage 18-19, in this situation, but Sweden did not manage to level the game even in this critical phase for Netherland. Dutch girls were focused and increased the lead to two goals, 24 – 26 (48.minute) .
Five minutes before the end Netherlands got a three goals lead, 27 – 30. Tthis was the moment for Signell to call a time-out. It did not help since the Netherlands were focused all the way, Nycke Groot, Yvette Broch and Tess Wester had very good performances and ther team never let Sweden come back to the match, winning 30 – 33.
