The first semifinal fo EURO 2016 between Denmark and Netherland started with a Dutch lead, 4-2, fast goals and eye-catching handball play from both sides. Tess Wester and Sandra Toft started also well-performing the semifinals, so both teams had a difficult task if they want to put the ball in the goal. However good Danish defence, the team of Helle Thomsen managed to increase the lead, 6-3 and 7-4, due to their fastbreak goals. Nycke Groot, Debbie Bont, Yvette Broch or Angela Malestein were the responsible for the goals on the Dutch side. Danes had a very good defence and goalkeeper performance by Sandra Toft.

Thanked to this they managed to level the game at 8-8, then they stuck to Holland and the last ten minutes of the first half were very close, even if Netherlands was in lead at two goals difference two more times (last at 12 – 10), the thirty minutes ended 13-13.
In the beginning of the second half, Holland took the lead, Wester saved every Danish attack, Groot, Broch , Visser scored, 17 – 13, after six minutes of play, Denmarks head coach called his timeout. It was meaningless as after seven more minutes his team was still goal-less, 19 – 13. The miracle also happened when Kristina Kristiansen got some playing seconds from his coach, then Denmark managed to score their first goal in the second half, after 13 minutes from a penalty.
At the middle of the second half Dutch team had a six-goal advantage, 8-2. Kristina Kristiansen made the play for Denmark and goals started to flow, 21-17 when twelve minutes left of the match. But Netherlands managed to increase the lead, scorings of Polman or Visser secured the difference, 25 – 19, then the victory and the qualification into the final.
