Silje Solberg is maybe the best goalkeeper so far in this EURO tournament, at least her overall saving percent is showing that (44%). She made some very good matches during the EURO 2016 but her best match here in Sweden was the semifinal game against France. She was sitting on the bench and after ten minutes she had to replace Kari Aalvik Grimsbø, since her colleague had no luck with the French shoots.
Silje Solberg came in, saved balls and helped Norway to come back, turn the result and win the match. And last, to qualify for the final.
After the semifinal she was shining of happiness in the mixed zone:
“I was really nervous during all the match, but luckily I managed to focus on every ball and save when I had to. I think that this might be my best match ever at the national team. It was such an important match and I kept the calm and the focus.
“The support from our fans was fantastic. I looked around before the match started and I could see Norwegians everywhere, Norwegian flags in the air and during the anthem I felt like on home court. It couldn’t be better.
“To play against Netherlands won’t be that easy as it was last year in the final of World Championship. They are stronger now, has a head coach with a different style and they have much more experience than they had one year ago. Last year Kari had a good match with many saves against them and we managed to score easy goals. This time we need to play a perfect defence and hopefully we will be able to run with the. It will also be important that we stay disciplined and don’t give them easy balls for their counter attacks.”
