The only question regarding the teams earning the right to participate in the quarterfinals was decided in a direct encounter between FC Midtjylland and Krim Mercator in the Slovenian capital Ljubljana. However, Krim’s chance to grab the last place in the top 8 was rather existing in theory as they needed an at least 9-goal-win to qualify. Krim entered the Main Round as winners of Group D, but their “spring” season wasn’t as good as the “autumn” phase as they didn’t manage to collect a single point in the second half of the competition.
Krim was pushing hard in the first half when FCM was in front only by one goal after the first 30 minutes (9-10). However, in the second period, FCM didn’t leave any questions open. The Danish team grabbed the last place in the TOP8 of Europe and qualified for the quarterfinals. As the 4th placed team of Group II, they will face the 1st of Group I, Vardar Skopje in April.
