In the last game day of the Main Round of the Champions League, Larvik HK and Győri Audi ETO KC met in Norway in a match without real importance as both teams had their places fixed before the last round. Győr has already won Group II and Larvik couldn’t finish anything else than 2nd after the Main Round. In their last encounter in Győr, the both teams shared the points and both were undefeated in the six matches of 2017.

Győr started off better than the Norwegians (1-4) but Larvik managed to take up the rhythm of the game quickly. Even without Amanda Kurtovic and Kristine Breistol, Larvik took over the lead (9-8). Linn-Kristin Riegelhuth Koren reminded everyone of her best days and the Norwegian team punished Győr’s mistakes right away. With two quick goals from the Hungarians, Győr took back the lead and didn’t let it go any more. This was Larvik’s only time leading. Before the halftime, Győr’s advantage was 3 goals but a cheeky goal from Thea Mörk in the last second of the half meant that Győr lead 14-12 after the first 30 minutes.

As in the first half, Győr started better in the second half too: in the first 8 minutes, their lead was 7 goals, the biggest difference reached in this match (13-20). Tor Odvar Moen didn’t wait any longer, he asked for a timeout and after that, Larvik proved once again they are not the team to give up, even if there is no real importance of the points: they made a quick 5-goal-run inspired by Riegelhuth and were back in the game (18-20). The score promised an exciting last quarter of the match. In the last 15 minutes, Győr was constantly in front with 3-4 goals and the Hungarians seemed to lack concentration in the finalizations, this was clearly seen by the penalties. Larvik started a last comeback in the last five minutes and they managed to close in but Győr could keep one of the advantage. Even Riegelhuth’s 11 goals were not enough for the hosts to stop Győr on their way. Győr will face Metz, while Larvik will play against Buducnost in the quarterfinals.
