TIPPMIX EHF FINAL 4

Statements after semifinal between CSM Bucuresti and Vardar, won by Macedonians 33-38

Gnonsiane Niombla, left back (CSM Bucuresti):

“Tomorrow it will be a new day, a tough game, we have to rise and fight. We are disappointed because we could not make it to the final despite we prepared well for this match.”

Per Johansson, head coach (CSM Bucuresti):

” We made a good preparation, we could not see this coming. Today nothing worked for my team, defense, technical errors and mentally as well we were not at our best. We had a meltdown, this is the right expression for this match. Vardar did not surprise us, but we were insecure in defense during all the match and we could not stop Jovanka Radicevic and Andrea Penezic. Many of our key players had problems today, and we gave Vardar the chance to turn the result clearly in their favor. They did what they can do best and we were not able to stop them.”

Andrea Penezic, left back (Vardar):

About qualifying to the final for the first time

” It is a dream come true, we are for the first time in the final, at TIPPMIX EHF FINAL 4, after three times not reaching it. Personally, I was part of it twice before and I can tell you that the difference between bronze medals and playing the final is huge, it could not be compared. Today we were mentally strong, showed a powerful play and I think that we deserved this victory. We played like a team today, every player did her best on the court, such a good feeling.

About Győr and the tomorrow’s final

“Győr were really good this season, they have a dream team, they are playing strong,  have a good flow in their play, they have also continuation so I mean that they are a very hard opponent. But tomorrow is the final, there is a new day, another match and everything will be different. We start from the scratch and everything is possible, we can remember what happened here last year.

Irina Dibirova, head coach (Vardar)

“We had a good preparation, made good analyses of the opponent before this semifinal and they did not do anything surprising. We managed to play the game what we planned beforehand and this brought us the success. The first ten minutes of the match we played very well, without mistakes and we put pressure on our opponent. We become calm, could play without stress and the opponent had to run to reduce the gap.

About the final and Győr as opponent

“First of all we are going to celebrate this victory and the spot in the final of the TIPPMIX EHF FINAL 4, then we will prepare for the tomorrow’s game. Győr is a tough opponent, but this is Final 4 and you meet here only strong teams.
