Germany 2017: Poland receives wild card

The International Handball Federation announced that Poland receives the wild card for the IHF Women’s Handball World Championship 2017 hosted by Germany. The Polish team missed the qualification for the main event in the European qualification playoff against Olympic champions Russia. According to the release of the IHF, Oceania didn’t use their place at the world championship and Poland was the best team without qualification as they finished 4th in the last competition in Denmark. The European Handball Federation also appointed Poland as the first reserve.

20 teams have already qualified for the world championship, Poland is the 21st participant. The teams of the Pan American region are currently competing for the remaining places. The last three places will be decided between Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.
