The head of Macedonian handball superpower Vardar, Sergei Samsonenko has announced in an open letter that he will stop investing in the Vardar clubs after the end of the season 2017/18. This means he will quit sponsoring the Champions League finalist women’s and the Champions League winner men’s as well as the football club with the same name. The Russian businessman named the insults in the media and in social networks towards him and his club as the main reason of his decision, as a “reward” for his investments in the Macedonian sport. If his decision is final and if so, if this means the end of an era in the Macedonian and European handball? We will see at latest at the end of the season…
