The Russian Rostov Don arrived in Denmark after a victory in the first round against Brest Bretagne on home court, hosts from FC Midtjylland lost in Gyor in a bitter match, where the goal difference was eleven goals for Hungarians. Hosts had to start the game without their regular first-choice rightwinger, Anne Mette Pedersen. Louise Burgaard did not play either, only a very short period of the match.

The match started with Rostov advantage, but FCM leveled the game quickly at 4 – 4 and from the moment the two teams were following closely each other in a game with not so rich in scorings. When the result was 5-6 for the Russians, Brazilian goalkeeper Mayssa Pessoa left her six meter area in order to stop a Danish fast-break, but she faulted the Danish player and received a red card. FCM leveled the game again, then Sabine Englert pulled out her best form and made some important saves, meanwhile Rostov seemed to be disturbed of Pessoa’s loss. The next fifteen minutes were close, FCM finished the first half in an one goal advantage, 11-10. Veronika Kristiansen was the leader of Danes in the first half, alongside with goalkeeper Sabine Englert.

The first ten minutes of the second half showed the same set up, close battle and none of the two teams could decide the match in their favor. The head coach of Rostov replaced Anna Vyakhireva with Katarina Bulatovic and this move seemed to boost his teams performance, as the Montenegrin right back scored several times  and Russians took the lead 14-17 (14.min).

15-18 was Rostov Don’s lead, but FCM leveled the game once again scoring three fast-break goals, 18-18 (21.min).  Danes managed to take the lead five minutes before the end, 21-19. Three goals difference seemed to be enough for a victory, the score was 23-20 after Tonje Loeseth and Veronica Kristiansen gave their best to be able to put the ball behind Sedoykina in the Russian goal. Despite the time-out of the Rostov Don head-coach Frederic Bougeant, FC Midtjylland scored the last two goals of the game and kept the two points home after a solid fight and fantastic goalkeeper performance (45%) from Englert. Final result: 24 – 21.
