In the second round in Group B, defending champions Győri Audi ETO KC met newcomers Brest Bretagne in France. Last weekend, Győr started off with an easy victory against FC Midtjylland, while Brest forced Rostov to fight hard for the victory. The task didn’t seem easy for neither of the teams, and Győr started with full concentration and their lightning start resulted in an early 4-goal-lead (2-6). However, after Brest managed to overcome the shaky start, the French side scored 5 times in a row (7-6). Győri Audi ETO made a lot of mistakes in attack, the shots were inaccurate and Brest was fighting well enough to give a tough time to the title holders. After five goals conceded in a row, the Hungarian champions turned up the speed and went up to a comfortable distance in no time (8-13). In the final minutes of the half, Brest decreased the gap to 3 goals until the halftime whistle (10-13).

The second half started better for the home team (14-14) but Győr didn’t let the lead over to the French silver medalists. Despite the many mistakes from the Hungarian side, they still changed the gear and in the middle of the half, their lead was solid once again (17-21). With a little more than five minutes left from the match, the gap was 5 goals and it seemed there would be no excitement for the last part of the game. Still, the easy mistakes kept coming from Győr and Brest used the chances to make it exciting for the last few minutes. Although Brest was pushing hard in the last minutes to give themselves a chance to cause some surprise, this chance didn’t come and the Hungarians kept three goals from their advantage (23-26). During the whole match, Győri ETO was far from their best and was making far too many mistakes, but this time, this mediocre game was enough to collect two important points in Brest.
