In the 4th round of Group A in Trier, France met Spain. The two teams have played exciting matches in the past so the match promised excitement this time too and the two teams didn’t disappoint. Spain started well mostly thanks to Alexandrina Cabral Barbosa and to some great saves from Darly Zoqbi de Paula (6-3). After being 4 goals behind, France equalized within 5 minutes (8-8). What’s more, they even took the lead in the final minutes of the first half and they were one goal up at halftime (10-11). In the second half, the French team was mostly up, more times by three goals but as time went by, Spain was coming closer to them. The Spaniards equalized with just 5 minutes left from the game and the last 5 minutes promised a lot of excitement. In this period, none of the goalkeepers could help the decision with a save. When Niakate scored 40 seconds before the final whistle, France seemed to be in a comfortable situation to win the match, but the Spanish team received a penalty in the last seconds and Carmen Martín remained confident and equalized (25-25). France didn’t have time for a shot any more so the two teams shared the points. With this result, Romania has already won Group A before the last round.
