After defeating CSM Bucharest in a great match on Monday, defending champions Győri Audi ETO KC took over the first place in Main Round Group I, but to maintain this position, they still had one task to do for the week. The Hungarian champions travelled to Denmark to face Nykobing FH on Saturday just after lunchtime. As CSM Bucharest was previously defeated in Denmark, Győr couldn’t lose the focus for the game against the Danish champions. Győri Audi ETO KC started slow and NFH used this well to take an early 3-1 lead, but 5 Hungarian goals in a row put the title holders in a more comfortable position (3-6). The Hungarians were led by lightning duo Stine Oftedal and Nycke Groot – and the solid defense was supported by some great saves by Kari Aalvik Grimsbö. In the starting phase of the match, Cecilie Greve made spectacular saves, but in attack, it was only Johanna Westberg that could give a tough time to Győr’s defense. After Győr turned to a higher speed, NFH couldn’t keep the rhythm and the Danish defense wasn’t effective against the fast attacks of the title holders. The difference kept growing between the two sides and Győri Audi ETO KC had a 7-goal lead after the first 30 minutes (10-17).

Not much excitement was left for the second half, and even though Győr started a lot slower than they finished the first half and Cecilie Greve showed a great performance in the beginning of the half again, the difference couldn’t be decreased significantly by the hosts. As the match was eventually decided throughout the first 30 minutes, the guests slowed down a bit for the second half, but this only meant that the difference didn’t grow so rapidly. With a bit more than 4 minutes left from the game, the gap grew to two digits (21-31), for the greatest joy of the green-white fans in Naestved. In the final minutes, Nykobing FH managed to stay inside the 10-goal limit (24-32), but Győri Audi ETO KC took a very confident victory in Denmark. The Hungarians made one more step towards securing the first place of the group – they only need a victory against Krim to that.
