EHF EURO 2018, Brest
Thea Mørk worked hard in order to be able to make her championship debut for Norway this December at EHF EURO 2018. She suffered from many different injuries, knee, and shoulder in the previous years, so one of the best quality leftwingers of Norway has never played in a European or World championship. This year, after a good season-start in København, she got into the Norwegian squad, being preferred in front of Camilla Herrem.
During the Møbelringen Cup, in the last match against France, she got a hamstring injury and she had to stop playing. Since that day she was in recovery to be able to reach the EURO. For the first match against Germany, she was not in the squad yet, Norway nominated only fifteen players. The day after, Camilla Herrem has been asked to take the trip as a reserve to Brest, France.
Yesterday, Thea Mørk was in the team in the game against the Czech Republic, but after 5 minutes of play in the first half, she had to stop, leave the court and sit on the bench. Her face told everything, her tears were heartbreaking.
After the match, she said: ” It was good, I was tested and got the green light from the medical team to play. But after 5 minutes I felt a pain, and could not run as fast as it is needed on a handball court. I am very sad and dissapointed, I guess the EURO is finished for me. I had many injuries during my career, I have already got my share, but some players are more injured than others.”
Today Thorir Hergeirsson announced that Thea Mørk travels home, Camilla Herrem goes into the squad. Herrem gave birth to her child in June and trained hard in order to reach the EURO. When the squad has been announced in November, she was not among the sixteen players, but now she will replace Mørk. Camilla Herrem tried to comfort Thea Mørk, but it is difficult in this situation. Which level Herrem can deliver is still a question for Hergeirsson, she plays in the second Norwegian League for Sola.
