After the Netherlands won the bronze medals against Romania here are some short reactions:

Helle Thomsen  (NED) –  head coach

After she thanked for the Romanian team  for  the two very good games, she praised Ambros Martin that he has done a good job with his team:

” It was a hard game,  but we were the strongest team today on the court and I am happy to have the bronze medals with this team. I am proud of my team, these players made an amazing job and we won a medal again. Now I just want to get a good sleep, because this was exhausting.”

Lois Abbingh (NED) – left back, the best player of the match

“Was not an easy match, the first half was good, we had a fluent attack, but in the second half, we had problems scoring against the Romanian defense. But we learned from last year when we were so excited and missed the focus. Now we finished the match with cool heads and won the medals.

“This victory was different from last year, we had a hard EURO and we have to wait some hours, to realize what we did. Today we had a low energy level, with players playing on positions they never played before and I am surprised that we managed to take a medal.

Maura Visser (NED) – playmaker –  she announced that this bronze match was her last in her national team career

” I feel excited and proud of winning the bronze medals, I am happy because nobody expected it from us.

” This was my last game and is a nice way to finish the national team career with winning the bronze medals.

Ambros Martin (ROU) – head coach

“We are not happy and satisfied, today’s match was not so good, but the whole tournament was a good one for us.

“I would like to congratulate for the opponent, but first of all, I congratulate my players. We tried everything against all adversities and problems. Today the most important problems we had in the offense, our defense was working properly, in the second half we managed to take the initiative,  we scored on fast breaks, and after a good defense, we could play more relaxed in attacks. We managed to get close, but not enough. All my players did a good job,  showed a good attitude of the players,  here in the arena was a fantastic atmosphere, the Romanian fans helped us a lot.

Crina Pintea ROU) – line player, All-Star team

“Congratulate to the Netherlands and to my team also. We made a good job, we fought hard and I proud of the team. I am sad now, but this is handball. Today we could not win, despite the fighting, but I am sure we will get back stronger and next time will be our turn.

Melinda Geiger (ROU) –  rightwing

“The Netherlands caused many problems in the 1st half, but in the 2nd half my team did a good job both in defense and offense, but as I felt we did not have the power to turn the result. We fought hard, was not easy, but we have to be proud to be in the best 4 teams of this competition.”
