Nycke Groot leaves Győr at the end of this season

Győri Audi ETO KC has announced today that Dutch playmaker, Nycke Groot will not extend her contract with the club after this season.

Groot has announced her retirement from the national team in January 2019, and she decided to change the club also in order to take care of her health, so she wants to play in a club where the pressure is lower.

The club from Gyor has offered for Groot the possibility to form the conditions of her own contract if she stays, but she had anyway decided to leave.

The club-manager, Dr.Csaba Bartha says that is a disappointment for him to lose Nycke Groot, who is one of the most complex handball players of the world and everybody in the club, players, trainers, and fans wanted her to stay.

” Everybody would wonder tough why we did not announce already that Nycke Groo will leave? First, because we still had hope until this weekend that she will change her mind, for the second we had focused on our first two CL matches from the Main Round and last, we did not want to put any more pressure on Nycke, announcing that she leaves but without having her new team known.

“But now we had to make this announcement because the team is the most important for us, the situation and the pressure which follows with it could influence the performance of the team. Nycke is a person who never gives up and we know that she will do everything during this season to help the team to achieve their goals.” – said the club manager.

“I would like to thank for the club the offer they gave me and the patience they showed during the negotiations. I am grateful that I had the chance to play together with the best players in the world, to achieve our dreams together, it was an outstanding experience to be part of this club.

“I would like to thank the fantastic support for the fans of the club, they are amazing and definitely the best in the world. I will miss them a lot.

“Beside the gratefulness I feel for the time spent here, now I reached a point when I want to try something new in my life. BY taking this decision and retiring from the national team also, I hope that I will be able to find new energies somewhere else. I don’t expect that anybody will understand my decision, I just ask everybody to respect it.“-said Nycke Groot about her decision.

Rumors say that Nycke Groot will continue in Denmark.
