The Hungarian federation has announced earlier today that Kim Rasmussenis dismissed as Hungarian headcoach.
Rasmussen got the job in 2016, but he never managed to got big results with Hungary. With him, on the bench, Hungary produced the worst results in their history regarding the World Championships (15.place in 2017 and 14.place in 2019) and the worst ever European championship placement as 12. place in 2016. The only better result came in 2018 when Hungary finished 7th at et ECh, this position allowing participation at the Olympic Qualification tournament. Hungary was at Olympics last in 2008 in Beijing.
In addition, Kim Rasmussen was suspended by IHF with immediate effect after the WCh due to his behavior at the press conference after the game Romania-Hungary, when he was criticizing the referees in an inappropriate manner. There is no decision about his punishment since, which could include a longer suspension or two-three matches. The Hungarian federation must act in order to secure a smooth preparation for their national team. Gabor Elek (FTC) and Gabor Danyi (Gyor) are the proposed new head coach-duo by the Hungarian federation for the Olympic qualification tournament.
The Olympic Qualification tournament will be organized in Gyor, Hungary against PR of China, Serbia and Russia.
